What Is Change Enthusiasm®?

By Cassandra Worthy

Change Enthusiasm® is a methodology for harnessing the emotional energy created by change, rather than suppressing it, and using it to drive personal and organizational growth. It treats emotion as the primary lever for successful change adoption.

I built this methodology after spending nearly 15 years inside major corporate transformations, watching brilliant strategies fail for the same reason every time: leadership addressed the logistics of change and ignored the emotions driving whether people actually adopted it.

The Core Idea in One Sentence

Most change efforts fail because they treat emotion as a problem to manage. Change Enthusiasm® treats emotion as the resource that makes adoption possible in the first place.

What Makes It Different from Change Management

Traditional change management focuses on process: communication plans, training schedules, timelines, stakeholder maps. All of that matters.

None of it explains why two organizations can run the same textbook change plan and get completely different results.

Change Enthusiasm® addresses the layer underneath the process, the emotional and psychological reality of the people living through the change.

Most change initiatives don't fail because people lack the technical know-how to execute them. They fail because nobody addressed whether people were emotionally ready and willing to carry the change forward, and that's a fundamentally different problem to solve.

The Two Parts of the Definition

Change Enthusiasm® functions on two levels:

  1. A practice. The specific skill of recognizing your emotional response to change, understanding what it's signaling, and channeling that energy toward growth instead of resistance.
  1. A mindset. A broader orientation that treats change itself as an opportunity rather than a threat, applied consistently enough that it becomes how a person or organization operates by default.

 Both matter.

The practice gives people something concrete to do in the moment. The mindset is what makes that practice hold up over time, through change after change, rather than needing to be relearned every time something new happens.

Where It Comes From

The methodology grew out of my own experience navigating a difficult personal turning point while working inside a major Fortune 500 organization managing large-scale transformation.

I noticed the same emotional patterns showing up in myself, in my colleagues, and eventually across every organization I worked with afterward: resistance, fear, and frustration weren't signs that people couldn't handle change.

They were signs that nobody had given them a way to work with what they were feeling.

Change Enthusiasm Global exists to close that gap, for individuals building the skill personally and for organizations building it at scale.

Why This Matters for Leaders

Leaders who understand Change Enthusiasm® stop asking, "How do we get people to comply with this change?" and start asking, "What do people need to believe for this change to work, and what's standing in the way of that belief?"

That shift in the question changes almost everything downstream: how you communicate, how you handle resistance, and how long the change actually sticks once the initial rollout is over.

Our research consistently reflects this pattern: employees who feel change is happening with them, not to them, adopt it faster and sustain it longer.
